Another Filipino star is stepping onto the K-pop stage, and this time, it’s JL Gaspar of P-pop boy group PLUUS. 

The talented young artist stands out as the sole Filipino participant in SBS’ “Universe League,” the male counterpart to “Universe Ticket.” This survival show previously introduced the girl group UNIS, which includes three Filipinas: Gehlee Dangca, Elisia Parmisano and Jin Hyeon-ju.

Right from the very first episode, JL captured the attention of both mentors and audiences alike.

His skills earned him unanimous approval from the mentors, securing his spot on Team Rhythm, led by WayV and NCT members Ten and Yangyang.

By the closing bell, the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) shed 0.26 percent, or 19.31 points, to 7,437, snapping a two-session winning streak.

“Reaching 4,000 stores is an incredible milestone that reflects the trust and loyalty we’ve earned from our customers over the years. It’s also a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our team” Philippine Seven Corp. (PSC) co-founder and chairman of the board Jose Pardo said in a statement Tuesday.

JL further shared that Ten has been a long-time inspiration for his dancing, making this mentorship particularly meaningful.

The other teams are equally impressive, with Team Groove led by Lee Changsub and Team Beat under the guidance of GOT7’s Yugyeom and EL CAPITXN.

As the competition progresses, JL continues to prove why he’s a force to be reckoned with in this global arena.

But who is JL Gaspar beyond the spotlight of “Universe League?”

Born on April 21, 2004, JL hails from Muntinlupa, Philippines. As the youngest member of PLUUS, he’s affectionately known as the “Nation’s Giant Center.”

His rise to stardom began with SBTown’s rigorous SB Talent Camp, where he and his fellow trainees endured four years of intense preparation.

This dedication paid off when PLUUS debuted, featuring six members: Justin, Haro, JL, Gab, Theo and Yen.

Before his official debut in the Philippines, JL was already making his mark, joining his local City Dance Troupe to refine his skills in various dance genres.

Now on “Universe League,” his performance continues to charm everyone as he inches closer to the “PRISM Cup.” In the first elimination round of the show, he claimed the top spot in his group with over 38,000 global votes, ranking second overall.

JL’s dynamic presence hasn’t gone unnoticed by his mentors, particularly Yangyang, who has openly expressed concerns about him being “stolen” by rival teams. 

As the competition unfolds, JL’s journey represents a beacon of Filipino talent breaking through in the competitive K-pop arena. And he’s never stopping until he reaches the final game.
